A LIST OF SKATEPARKS COMING SOON!!!
COMING SOON
A new skatepark is being built in Mile End. By the sounds of it, it seems it is going to be the best around. I recieved an e-mail from the organiser and this is what he said:-

We just received planning permission for the canopy (roof) from Tower
Hamlets council so our fundraiser can now approach various trust funds and
the lottery for the £300K we need for the canopy.
As soon as this money is secured (which should be before Xmas) the building
work will start. This will take 3-4 months so I am aiming to have the site
finished around April 2001. I guess the park would be fully operational a
couple of weeks after this time.
We've put your E-mail address onto our database and we'll let you know how
things progress. We have a website www.eeesports.org (very basic at the
moment but full site will be up soon)

Extreme Sports Project - Mile End Park - London, England
--------------------------------------------------------
An integral part of the £25 million transformation of 90 acres of green
space in Mile End Park, East London, England.

Extreme Sports Project (ESP), London's new skatepark for the 21st Century
catering for skateboarding, rollerblading and bmx riding.

1100 square metres of smooth, power-floated concrete, state-of-the-art ramps
built to the new ROSPA standards, all covered with a tensile fabric canopy
to keep out the British weather! On site facilities will include a
reception, hire equipment, expert tuition, storage lockers, food and drink

We currently have an planning application lodged with London Borough of
Tower Hamlets for the canopy, if this is successful we start building in the
New Year for a Summer opening 2001(tba).

ESP will be run as a not-for-profit facility, with surplus funds reinvested
into the facility, sponsorship of local athletes, local competitions and
grants for other extreme projects in London.

Dorking Skate Park
Well I picked up my camera and ventured out to Dorking, I wanted to take a look at the site. Having been told that it was very small area (situated at the edge of the Meadow Bank Recreation Ground in Dorking), I was pleasantly surprised at what I found. I thought it had been put together with some care and, while not competing with a professional park, it was massively better than the 'nothing' I have seen in other towns. Here are some photos for your edification, let us know what you think of it.

FARNHAM SKATE PARK

Farnham Skate Park was officially launched on the 2nd of July 1999. I went down to the leisure center, where it is situated, to have a chat to some of the skaters/skateboarders. I was impressed to see so many people using it and the skill level of some of the users was very high. Refreshing to see a female presence on the half pipe.
Some young people were even invited to visit skateparks that had already been set up and running in other areas like Guildford. This was to give the young people the opportunity to decide as to what kind of park they wanted.
The success of the park is due to the partnership between the Farnham young people having a voice in waverley, the Borough Council, Surrey Police, Farnham Crime Prevention Panel and the Police Community Partnership Group.
